CCHS Band Uniform Policies
Marching Band
Uniform Care:
Each member of the marching band is custom fitted for a marching uniform.
Each student is responsible for the general conditions of the uniform. The uniform is on a
hanger that is identified with each student's name.
The back of the hanger has the pants and jacket numbers that are specific to each student.
All uniforms are hung in alphabetical order on racks. Each week the student
is responsible for taking down and dressing out in the uniform. After each performance,
the student is responsible for the correct re-hanging and placing it in the correct place on
the uniform rack.
All uniforms will be cleaned up to 4 times per year, paid for by the Boosters general fund.
If the uniform becomes soiled due to negligence and requires an unscheduled cleaning,
the student will assume the cost. In the event that the uniform or any of the component
parts are lost or damaged due to negligence, the student will assume the cost of replacement. .
Hangers:
After dressing out in your uniform, the students are to return the hanger to the
uniform rack. Do not lose the hanger.
Socks:
Socks are to be dark navy or black, calf length. Bring a clean pair for each performance.
Do not store socks in your shoes, horn cases, hats, or any other location in the band room.
If you forget socks for a performance, the Director has socks for sale - they are $2.50 and
they are yours to keep. Any socks that are left behind in the band room will belong to the
Uniform Committee. The Committee will wash them and then resell them to whoever needs a pair.
Shoes:
Band students are to purchase their own shoes. Order online at
www.bandshoppe.com/html/bandshoes.html The model is the Drill Master, Black.
The cost is $32.90. Shoes can be returned to Band Shoppe within 30 days if they do not fit.
We will have shoes available for you to try on at your uniform fitting to help you order the
correct size.
We also have a surplus of used shoes. They have been sprayed with Lysol and cleaned. If you
are willing to wear a used pair of shoes, you can buy them from the Uniform Committee for $10.
Be sure your name is inside your shoes; otherwise someone else may decide to wear them.
You are responsible for remembering to have your shoes for each performance. If a student has
forgotten their marching shoes, the Uniform Committee does have "loaner" shoes. The shoes must
be returned the following Monday after being cleaned.
Band Shoe Cleaning:
Band shoes will be taken home after every performance for cleaning. Do not
place dirty shoes in the locker. They are to be taken home for cleaning and a good airing out.
The proper procedures for cleaning the marching shoes after each performance are:
1. Brush any dirt off the bottom and sides.
2. Wipe the shoes with a damp cloth.
3. Spray the inside with Lysol or some other deodorizer/sanitizer and allow them to air out.
4. Periodically spray or wipe the outside with Armor All to protect them from moisture. ArmorAll
wipes are available in the automotive section of Wal-Mart or Target.
5. Return your shoes to your locker after they have been cleaned.
Hats:
The hats will have the student's name in them and are to be kept in the band locker.
There are black or white plumes that will be distributed before the halftime performance. After
halftime, return the plumes to the case in which they are stored. Do not store your marching hat
in the locker by hanging it by the strap - it breaks the strap. Do not use your hat as a "bowl"
for storing marching shoes. It makes the inside of the hat dirty and that excess dirt will be on
your head the next time you wear it.
Gloves:
You are given two pairs of gloves in a baggie with your name on it. You are responsible
for keeping them clean for each performance. Clean gloves are stored in the band locker.
If the gloves get torn, permanently
stained or need to be refit, see a member of the Uniform Committee for a swap. At the end of
marching season, the gloves will be returned to the Uniform Committee.
Band Lockers:
You will be assigned a locker, located outside the Band Room. The locker is used
to store Marching Band hats, shoes, gloves and small personal items. The lockers are not to take
the place of your school locker. Each band member is required to purchase a combination lock for
his or her locker. All combinations will be recorded and held by the Band Director and Uniform
Committee. If a student does not remember their combination, they may obtain the correct
combination from the Band Director.
Lockers are the property of the school and are subject to open inspection at any time.
The Band/school may not be held responsible for a student's personal property. The student is
responsible for the upkeep of the locker that they are borrowing for the year.
Lost and Found:
There is no Band Room lost and found. If anything is left in the Band Room, the
item will be taken to the school lost and found. This includes personal clothing.
Concert Attire
Concert Band/Symphonic Wind Ensemble:
All band members are required to purchase concert attire.
Girls will wear a long, black concert dress and boys will wear tuxedos. The girls' dresses are
ordered through a catalog. Sometime in September, sample sizes will be available to try on during
class time. Booster Moms will assist. Orders will be submitted together. Dresses cost
approximately $60.00. All dresses come without a hem so each family is responsible for the final
hemming and any other alterations.
Boys will purchase their own tuxedos either from a store in town or through a catalog. The
tuxedo should be black (no tails), with a one-button notch lapel, a white shirt with narrow
pleats and lay-down collar, black bow tie, black cummerbund and black dress shoes. Tuxedos will
not be fitted or ordered as a group. The average price for a tuxedo is $140.00.
The fitting process will begin in September. Information for dresses and tuxedos will be
distributed then. Students will need their concert attire for the Winter Concert in December.
